Magnesium From A Sea, Not a Chemical Plant

Most magnesium sprays are thin, sticky brines. They drip down your leg before you can massage them in. So we created a gel.

And instead of chemically made salts, ours uses only Magnesium Chloride from the Zechstein Sea, which dried up about 250 million years ago, and its mineral deposits now lie deep beneath Northern Europe, sealed away from modern pollution.

We turn that pure magnesium chloride into a gel with three ingredients. It spreads easily and dries down clean with less mess.

It's part of our nightly ritual. A pump on the calves and feet of the kids, a pump on the back of the neck, then lights down.

We sleep very deep now.

We hope you love it as much as we do.

The Research Behind It

  • Researchers at the University of Kiel had volunteers with dry, sensitive skin soak one forearm in a 5% magnesium-rich Dead Sea salt solution for 15 minutes a day and the other in tap water, for six weeks. The magnesium arm came out ahead: better hydration, smoother texture and less redness, plus a stronger skin barrier in people whose barrier started out weakest.

  • In a pilot study at the University of Hertfordshire, 25 adults used either a magnesium cream (56 mg a day) or a placebo cream for two weeks. Blood magnesium rose 8.5% in the magnesium group versus 2.6% with placebo. The rise was statistically significant only among non-athletes, and the researchers called for larger, longer studies.

  • A University of Queensland lab study found magnesium applied to human skin does pass the outer layer, more so with higher concentrations and longer contact, and that hair follicles play a significant role. One more reason to massage it in and leave it on.

  • Researchers at Shiseido found that some magnesium salts, and mixtures of magnesium and calcium salts, sped up skin barrier recovery after the barrier was disrupted.

  • U.S. dietary surveys consistently show that many people take in less magnesium from food than recommended, one reason magnesium rituals have become so popular.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A light tingle is common, especially the first few times or on sensitive spots, and it usually fades with regular use. Avoid freshly shaved or broken skin, and rinse off if it feels uncomfortable.

  • Magnesium “oil” isn't an oil at all. It's a thin brine. Our gel is thickened with xanthan, so it's easier to apply, less drippy and dries down cleaner.

  • Most people love it in the evening as part of their wind-down, or right after a workout. Use it whenever it fits your day.

  • It can feel slightly tacky for a minute while it dries. If you prefer, rinse or wipe it off after 20–30 minutes.

  • Yes, we used it during pregnancy on the belly! Also, many of our customers love our Tallow & Magnesium Oil Cream.

  • Most are thin sprays, and many add fragrance, dyes or synthetic preservatives. Ours is a three-ingredient gel made with Zechstein magnesium, at an everyday price.
